Hier geht’s zur deutschen Version.

I’ve been wanting to post a delicious smoothie recipe for ages. At least as long as I’ve had my wonderful Vitamix (August 2015) but probably even longer. I love blending things, I love the power with which the Vitamix blends things. And I love that I can make amazing healthy breakfasts to power me on my 12 km bike ride (I’m starting next week again, for real) to work each morning.

When we first got the Vitamix, Dan was really good at trying out some of the recipes that came with the machine, which led to knee-weakening peach and mango smoothies, among other cool summer treats. Not me, though! I don’t need a book to tell me how to make amazing smoothies. I am adventurous, confident, creative! I know with absolute certainty that kale, radishes, romaine lettuce, homegrown sprouts and some grapes will make an invigorating and delicious smoothie. I am wrong.

Eventually, Dan buys me Tess Masters’ The Blender Girl Smoothies and I begin to see the light. It’s definitely the most useful recipe resource I’ve encountered in a long time. The smoothies are delicious, varied and best of all, Tess explains the function of different categories of ingredients and provides a useful table for you to create your own. My favourite so far is the Creamy Dreamy (page 70) which also inspired the addition of vanilla extract in this smooth concoction here.

Serves 2. 5 minutes.

You’ll need:

  • 480 ml / 2 cups almond milk, unsweetened
  • 75 g / ⅓ cup soy yoghurt, unflavoured
  • 110 g / 1 cup blueberries, frozen
  • 1 small pear
  • 50 g / ½ cup spinach, frozen
  • 3 dates
  • 1 T chia seeds

Directions:
Place all ingredients into a blender in the order listed and blend on high for 30 – 60 seconds, until smooth and creamy.
